Following the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko, the Verkhovna Rada supported his removal on 15 September 2026. On 17 September 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Anton Kovalskyi as acting Prosecutor General of Ukraine. This decision came after discussions regarding candidates for the position.

The names of the main candidates for the position of Prosecutor General of Ukraine have emerged. Among them are the heads of the Khmelnytskyi and Dnipropetrovsk regional prosecutor's offices, Anton Kovalskyi and Valerii Pryhozhano. According to sources, Anton Kovalskyi is more likely to take the position.
