Belarusian volunteers fighting for Ukraine encounter legal difficulties as they require a Belarusian passport for legalisation, which can only be renewed in Belarus, where they risk arrest. As of 2026, around 20,000 foreign servicemen are in Ukraine, some of whom also face challenges returning to their home countries due to security risks.
