Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported a shortage of underground schools in the city and limited funding for their construction. He urged the government to provide co-financing for frontline cities, as safe educational spaces operate in two or three shifts, making it impossible to accommodate all children.
On September 1, a new underground school opened in the Nemishlianskyi district of Kharkiv, becoming the tenth in the city. The school is designed for 2,700 students from 11 local educational institutions and provides safe conditions for learning amid the threat of shelling.
Construction of underground educational institutions is underway in Kharkiv region. Specifically, 13 underground schools and 4 kindergartens are planned, but currently funding is available for only two projects.
The Betking Foundation and its founder Pavlo Zhurylo have established a modern computer class in the underground school of Kharkiv Lyceum No. 24 named after I. N. Pitykov. The class is equipped with computers, a multimedia board, and technology for teaching and developing students' digital skills.
