A new radiation shelter measuring 1307 square meters has been built at Lyceum No. 8 in Zhytomyr, designed for 600 people. The shelter meets accessibility requirements and includes features such as elevators and ramps.
As of September 1, 2026, Ukraine has launched a program for free hot meals for students in grades 1-11. In Zhytomyr and Kharkiv, students receive hot breakfasts, with additional meals provided for disadvantaged groups. The program is funded by state subsidies and local budgets.
Six students from three universities in the Zhytomyr region will receive Presidential academic scholarships for the first semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. According to the order from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated high academic and research performance.
Four educational institutions from Zhytomyr region made it to the top 200 schools in Ukraine based on the results of the national multi-subject test for 2026. Zhytomyr Lyceum No. 1 ranked 35th in the national rating.
The new school year has begun in Ukraine, with holiday dates announced for 2026 and 2027. In the Korosten community, 462 first-graders have started school, while 627 seniors have begun their final year.
