In September 2026, border guards rescued a man who got lost in the Polissia swamps while attempting to escape from Ukraine. It was later reported that another man, who also got lost in the area, was rescued.

A 29-year-old resident of Kryvyi Rih got lost in the swamps of Polissia while attempting to illegally cross the Ukrainian border. After several days without food and water, he called the border guards for help, who found him and provided first aid. The man now faces trial for attempting to illegally cross the border.
