On August 29, Ukraine observes the Day of Remembrance for Fallen Defenders, established in 2019. This date marks the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from encirclement near Ilovaisk in 2014, during which many soldiers lost their lives due to violations of agreements by Russian forces.
