On August 25, 2026, Spain approved a draft law to reform its migration legislation and decided to expedite the return of migrants from Ceuta to Morocco. In response to the crisis involving migrants remaining in Ceuta, Spain sought assistance from the EU. The Prime Minister of Spain denied Morocco's involvement in the influx of migrants, despite earlier accusations regarding a disinformation campaign by Russia and Israel.
From the beginning to today
On 25 August, the Spanish government approved a preliminary bill to reform migration legislation. At the same time, Spain decided to expedite the return of migrants from Ceuta to Morocco, where between 3,500 and 7,000 individuals are currently located.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez denied Morocco's involvement in the mass influx of migrants to Ceuta that occurred on July 30-31. The Spanish Prosecutor's Office has referred the case to the National Court for investigation, noting that the incident may be classified as a crime against the country's territorial integrity.
