Drone attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea
In October 2026, drones attacked two commercial vessels in Bulgaria’s economic zone, resulting in one sinking and the crew of the other being rescued. Bulgaria sought assistance from the EU and NATO for an investigation into these attacks, which pose a threat to global shipping. In response to the incident, Bulgaria announced plans to summon the Russian ambassador for explanations.
